On Tuesday, a teacher has been arrested after a Class X girl from a private school in Shirti village of Shirol taluka died due to poisoning at a hospital here.
According to Police, the teacher, Nilesh Balu Pradhan, of Bhairewadi in Kurundwadallegedly gave the student, Sanika Mali, a pesticide which she mixed with water & drank in an attempt to fall ill & escape the SSC exams as she was not prepared for it.
The Police said that "The suspect, who was arrested on Thursday, has admitted to have given the poisonous liquid to the girl student".
Besides Indian Penal Code section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Pradhane has been charged under & IPC sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc. with intent to commit an offence).
On Friday, a JMFC court remanded Nilesh Balu Pradhan in Police custody till March 6. Kishor Kale, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ichalkaranji division said, "On Feb 20, Sanika had gone to school to appear for the practical exam & complained uneasiness. She was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Kolhapur. On February 25, she died during treatment."
The officer said that "The hospital authorities have stated that she had consumed poisonous liquid. Based on her parents' complaint, we launched an investigation. After enquiring with teachers, staff & girl students, we detained Pradhane, who confessed to have provided a pesticide to Sanika on her demand".
They will investigate the motive behind Pradhane's action & & why he didn't take Sanika to a counsellor, he added.
